Weekly UHF Nets
Currently, the ARESDEC UHF net meets every Thursday evening at 20:00 local time on the 448.425MHz (107.2Hz tone, -5MHz offset) repeater, with a backup frequency of 447.575 (107.2Hz tone, -5MHz offset). This is a formal net that is open to all amateurs interested in emergency communications. The ARESDEC emergency coordinator, assistant coordinators, and specialists give brief reports on current issues of interest to the group. An informal “after-net” training segment and informal “chat time” provides an opportunity to discuss specific topics. You do not have to be a member or hold an amateur radio license to participate in the nets or face-to-face meetings. You can ask another licensed ham to be the control operator so you can participate in the net without a license.

Monthly Face-to-Face Meetings
The monthly “face-to-face” meetings occur on the fourth Thursday of every month at 19:00 local time. Please see our website calendar for more details. All interested amateur radio operators or those interested in becoming amateur radio operators are welcome to attend the face-to-face meeting. Face-to-face meeting begins with announcements and are followed by a presentation on a topic of interest to the group.
Periodic Training Workshops
Half-day training sessions are periodically held on Saturday mornings. Topics include building projects related to antennas or electronics and operational activities such as Winlink exercises.
Annual SET Exercise
The ARRL “Simulated Emergency Test” (SET) is a nationwide exercise for emergency communications. The SET weekend (usually in October) provides an opportunity for amateurs to gain experience in emergency communications using standard procedures and a variety of operating modes under simulated emergency conditions.

- Spring (June) & Fall (September) Rampart Range Poker Run. Off-road motorcycle course with riders of all ages
- Mad Gravel (May). Bicycle ride and race.
- Elizabeth Stampede (June). Rodeo
- ARRL Field Day (June). Set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science, skill, and service to our communities and our nation
- Elbert County Fair (July). Exhibit local agricultural products and livestock. Games, concert, etc.
- Turkey Day 5K (November). Fun run or walk on Thanksgiving morning.
Hamfests
Various Hamfests are organized each year and they provide a great opportunity to meet fellow HAM’s and find that part you have been looking for. VE’s usually provide exams on-site for those who want to upgrade their ‘ticket’ or want to enter this wonderful hobby.
